The Davidson Community Foundation (DCF) celebrated six years of community impact at the organization’s second annual Donors & Friends event. The celebration, held March 12 at The Pines at Davidson, updated nearly 150 guests on its work thus far alongside area nonprofit associations which have partnered with DCF to help improve the lives of Davidson residents.
“Because DCF is rooted locally, we can respond quickly when unexpected needs arise, while continuing to invest in long-term community priorities,” explained Board Chairman Jim Merrifield. “It is all thanks to the help of Davidson residents who have invested in the community through their generous gifts to the Community Foundation.”
Merrifield shared news of DCF’s work over the past year, including grants supporting early childhood development, services for homeless residents and affordable housing. Since its inception, DCF has raised more than $1.4 million for vital community projects. For example, recent Foundation support through Rebuilding Together and Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region helped longtime residents complete critical home repairs that improve safety and stability, and funding through the Ada Jenkins Center enabled emergency food assistance when SNAP benefits were interrupted. Merrifield said this work continues because neighbors in Davidson step forward to support one another.
Davidson Community Foundation was founded in 2020 by local residents to bolster nonprofit organizations serving the town. Guided by a diverse board of directors, DCF utilizes philanthropic efforts in the community, so funding goes to where it is needed most. The mission of DCF is to improve and enhance the lives of Davidson residents now and in the future in areas such as affordable housing (including critical home repairs); early childhood education; and emergency needs, especially for local senior citizens.
