Davidson Community Foundation (DCF) has announced grants to three nonprofits totaling $75,000. Grant recipients include Bags of Hope, Davidson-Cornelius Child Development Center and Davidson Housing Coalition. According to Boris Henderson, chair of the Foundation’s Grants Committee, the grants will enhance support for the critical needs of these nonprofit organizations and those they serve.

Bags of Hope is a first-time recipient of a grant from DCF. The organization works with Lake Norman area schools to address food insecurity among children. DCF awarded Bags of Hope $20,000 that will expand weekend food assistance for students to ensure children get the food and nutrition they need to thrive.

A grant of $27,000 was awarded to Davidson-Cornelius Child Development Center to provide funding to address classroom facility and infrastructure needs. The Center, founded more than 50 years ago, provides high-quality, affordable early education and childcare with scholarship support for children ages six weeks to Pre-K.

Davidson Housing Coalition received a $28,000 grant to complete critical pre-development planning and design required for the construction of new affordable units in Davidson.

“During this grant cycle, the Foundation received requests totaling nearly $350,000 – more than we currently have the capacity to fund,” says Henderson. “Our Grants Committee members bring deep experience in evaluating nonprofit organizations and their needs, and recommend grants we believe can address the community’s most critical issues. Our donors fuel our work to help ensure Davidson remains a strong, welcoming, and supportive place to live for everyone.”

Founded in 2020, DCF was established to bolster local nonprofit organizations. Guided by a diverse board of directors, DCF expands philanthropic efforts in the community and directs funding where and when it’s needed most. Since its inception, DCF has raised more than $1.4 million to provide assistance for projects designed to enhance the lives of residents.
