Davidson Community Foundation is a local philanthropic fund established by residents in 2020 to bolster nonprofit organizations serving our unique community. Guided by a diverse board of leaders, the foundation aims to expand philanthropic efforts in the community and direct funding where it is most needed. It has raised more than $1.2 million, providing assistance for transformative projects that will enhance the lives of Davidson residents.
The Davidson Community Foundation’s mission is to enhance the lives of residents of Davidson, now and for generations to come. We work with local leaders and donors to build and deploy a community fund to address Davidson’s most pressing needs. This volunteer-driven initiative is designed to substantially expand local philanthropy and direct it to where it’s most needed.
Through our work with select nonprofits and the Town of Davidson, the Davidson Community Foundation has awarded more than $670,000 in grants and raised more than $1.2 million.
High-impact efforts include:
- Led community efforts to establish eight permanently affordable housing units in Parkside Commons (formerly Hoke Development) on Jetton Street and raised $400,000 toward the planned purchase of the units by Davidson Housing Coalition. It also worked with Davidson Housing Coalition to secure $300,000 in grants from Mecklenburg County to subsidize rents for the units.
- Committed $150,000 to partner with Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region and the Town of Davidson on a critical home repair program for homeowners in the West Davidson community. The local effort will address code and safety issues and help residents stay in their homes. The goal is to complete 10 projects over the next two years.
- Awarded a $22,000 grant to the Town of Davidson to assist residents most severely impacted by Mecklenburg County’s new tax assessments. The support will help as many as 100 residents who qualify for the town’s relief program.
- Distributed more than $350,000 in grants to nonprofit partners during the COVID crisis. That support provided critical assistance to 230 families – more than 750 neighbors in need – for rent/housing, food, medical expenses, utility services and transportation.
