At the onset of the COVID Pandemic, many Davidson residents struggled to make ends meet. For some, the businesses they worked for closed or their work hours were cut, yet expenses kept rolling in.
Throughout 2020 and 2021, The Ada Jenkins Center distributed critical financial assistance to community members who were facing seemingly impossible financial challenges. Davidson Community Foundation provided $64,000 to help provide that much-needed support. With these funds, Davidson residents received help with rent, car expenses, utilities and medicine. To assist parents who were working and/or taking educational classes or training, a DCF grant supported the Center’s LEARN Works Day Program ‘pandemic pod,’ in which classroom coordinators and volunteers supervised students’ remote learning.
DCF’s contributions allowed The Ada Jenkins Center to continue to support our neighbors in need when COVID-19 relief funding was depleted- helping to keep families housed and their utilities on.
This support gave families a much-needed reprieve from their crisis mode, providing a breath of fresh air amidst the challenging circumstances of that time. We are grateful for the partnership with Davidson Community Foundation, as it exemplifies meaningful impact and service in the community, conducted in a way that promotes dignity and respect.
