Davidson, NC (November 21, 2025) – More than 42 million people receive benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), including many Davidson residents. During the government shutdown, those recipients did not receive benefits which resulted in an inability to buy needed groceries and other essentials. Davidson Community Foundation (DCF) moved quickly to respond to this critical need by awarding a $10,000 grant to the Ada Jenkins Center to provide Food Lion gift cards to residents whose benefits were interrupted.

Ada Jenkins’ CEO Harold Rice, said the grant helps some 35 families and approximately 80 people in Davidson to buy food to feed their families. “DCF board member Bob Boyd reached out to us during this crisis,” says Rice. “Because of DCF’s awareness of such issues and their flexibility to respond, we were able to enhance our organization’s ability to provide these recipients the food and other essentials they depend on. DCF is a valued community partner, and we are grateful for their support and resources that allow us to serve more people in need.”

SNAP provides low-income people with an average of $177 a month in food benefits to help reduce food insecurity. This benefit helps supplement an individual’s or a family’s income to help buy nutritious food.

Davidson Community Foundation was founded in 2020 by residents to bolster nonprofit organizations serving the town. The 501(c)(3) organization is led by a diverse board of directors and supports needs in the areas of affordable housing, critical home repairs, early childhood education, and emergency needs (especially for seniors).
